When an employee's start date falls after the 1st of the month due to a weekend or holiday, it can affect how their first month's salary is prorated. Our system offers flexibility to address this common situation.
Options for Managing Start Dates After the 1st
Option 1: Use the 1st of the month as the Start Date
When adding a new employee to the system, enter the 1st of the month as their start date
This is the recommended approach when the later start date is only due to a weekend or holiday
The employee will receive their full monthly salary without proration
Option 2: If You've Already Entered a Later Start Date
There are two ways to correct this:
Backend Date Change: Contact support to change the start date to the 1st of the month
Manual Salary Adjustment:
Keep the actual start date in the system
When running payroll, manually adjust the salary amount on the Earnings step during the pay run
Enter the entire monthly salary instead of the prorated amount
Reminder: These adjustments are typically only made when the later start date is due to weekend/holiday scheduling, not when an employee genuinely starts mid-month for other reasons.
